Our client, a leader in the Oil and Gas industry is seeking to add an experienced Drilling Engineer.  This key position will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:


·         Manage a one to three drilling rig program with quarterly trips to the field

·         Troubleshoot daily drilling issues; work with consultants and drilling superintendent to remedy problems

·         Evaluate and implement new drilling practices and  technologies to improve rig performance and safety

·         Review and approve expenditures for rig activities and make recommendations to reduce costs and enhance efficiencies

·         Prepare economics, pre-spud drilling package and post job wellbore diagrams

·         Work with safety coordinator to improve and maintain a safe working environment on each rig

·         Maintain and active presence in industry associations such as SPE, AADE, Etc.

Experience and skills required: Minimum five years in petroleum industry with drilling and or completion experience is a MUST.  A fundamental understanding of drilling rigs and horizontal drilling with experience in the Mid Continent is a strong plus. The selected candidate will be required to immediately step in and produce results!

Education: BS in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

This deepwater project is a multi-TCF gas pool being developed currently. The project is slated to be on production in 1 to 2 years at an estimated cost in excess of $2 billion. The team is looking for a Senior Geophysicist. In this role you will hold a key technical position within the integrated Subsurface Team for several deepwater blocks. Primary responsibilities will include the various geophysical activities required for the delineation and development of deepwater projects together with exploration, delineation and development activities within their deepwater portfolio. This will include geophysical mapping, reservoir and pay prediction, providing recommendations for drilling locations, evaluation of drilling results, together with assessments of original in-place hydrocarbons and the provision of geophysical inputs for field ODP (Overall Development Plan) reporting.   Position will initially be Calgary based but the incumbent must be willing to relocate to SE Asia if required (possibly by end of 2010 ex-pat). Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking the geophysical interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data
  • Applying advanced 3D seismic interpretation techniques, including AVO and seismic inversion
  • Developing and recommending well locations and evaluation programs
  • Preparing recommendations and documentation in support of drilling and evaluation programs

  • Calculated light oil water flood field voidage replacement of enhanced recovery schemes; provided quarterly water injection targets for the field (111 nine-sport pattern and 9 HZ injectors) as well as group production performance for the 9 HZ injectors.
  • Revised the waterflood strategy by adjusting the waterflood injection rate and pattern design, thereby reducing the injection rate by 600 m3/d, which greatly reduced water treatment costs, and controlled the water cut which had been increasing at 1% per year.
  • Conducted 3 pool depletion plan studies. Participated in the development of detailed reservoir engineering studies and reservoir simulation for drilling 18 HZ injectors in the Valhalla Doe Creek I Pool (2000 BOE/D), the Valhalla Halfway C 3 well conversion and waterflood reactivation project as well as the Valhalla Charlie Lake waterflood assessment.
  • Conducted production optimization , annual 400+ well review and well packer isolation failure review, stimulation injectors and provided workover, completion suggestions and reserves estimation.
