This key Geosciences position supports development field activities by providing database management and supporting Geologists and Geophysicists with ongoing development drilling activities and integration of field and regional geological knowledge into development prospects.

Key duties are, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide database management including loading, entering, verifying, manipulating, analyzing and reporting data related to wells, seismic and leases.
  • Utilize ARCGIS tools to prepare maps in support of oil and gas exploration and scouting efforts.
  • Utilize Linux-based LANDMARK applications such as STRATWORKS to produce analytical interpretation and cross-correlation of well data; ZMAP to enable generation of contoured maps; and OPENWORKS for the storage of well and seismic data and interpretations.
  • Prepare slides, montages and reports in support of technical presentations and recommendations.
  • Provide software systems support to team personnel and troubleshoot user problems.
  • Assist with project development and project surveillance.
  • Support the construction of 2D-3D geological models using maps and cross-sections from Landmark Suite Applications and/or Petrel Software in conjunction with geotechnical data from the OpenWorks database.
  • Responsible for carrying out his or her work in accordance with the HESMS guidelines and the principles and policies established by the Company.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. Geoscience, Geography, Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with ARCGIS tools; LANDMARK applications such as STRATWORKS/Geographix, ZMAP, and OPENWORKS database management tools plus geological modeling software (ie Petrel) and reservoir management software (ie DSS). 
  • Demonstrated strength in MS Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as time management skills (i.e. able to meet short deadlines and work multiple projects).

This evaluation work will require integration of information derived from a variety of sources including open and cased hole well logs, mud logs, sidewall cores, full cores, RFT / MDT pressure test / fluid samples, mini-fracs, Diagnostic Fracture Injectivity Tests (DFIT), geochem analysis, and the like. Additionally, the role may also perform advanced geomechanics evaluation in order to make predictions related to wellbore stability assessment, formation sanding potential, principal present-day stresses analysis, and mechanical property determination useful in defining barriers to hydraulic fracture growth. Characterization of naturally fractured reservoirs will be an important aspect of the job.

This would include pre-frac performance forecasting, stimulation design and pre-frac expectations.

As the senior advisor, you will help mentor engineers on all shale hydraulic stimulation jobs whether onsite or remote. Maximize use of real-time fracture diagnostics and simulation. Provide detailed post-job reports on all jobs including modeling of most-likely fracture geometry obtained from net pressure matching and other data.  Provide post-frac well performance forecasting based on fracture geometries approximated from real-time data acquisition and pressure matching. You should have a mastery skills in rock mechanics for hydraulic fracture simulation, designing hydraulic fracturing, diagnostic testing and evaluation of hydraulic fracturing, QA/QC techniques and post-job performance assessment is a required.

The ideal candidate will have at minimum of a BS in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering, with a very strong preference for an advance level degree.  A Professional Engineering license would be preferred.  You must possess at least 15 or more years of experience with an emphasis in rock mechanics, geomechanics and hydraulic fracture stimulation.   Experience in unconventional plays is a must.

Our client, a leading oil and gas company, is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist for their Dallas office.  You will be involved in mapping of oil fields, analyzing older data and new data to make geologically sound estimates.  Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in researching old paper format data as well has having in depth knowledge of the latest cutting edge technology.

You must have a minimum of at least eight (8) or more years of active production geology exploitation experience and at least a BS in Geology.  Preference will be given to candidate with advanced level Geology degrees.

Experience with Gulf Coast required and Salt Basin a strong plus.  Must be proficient in Geographix (geoatlas, cross-section, prism and well base), and be able to perform basis seismic interpretation in SMT.  Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills are a must!

Ideal candidate will also be familiar reservoir description technology employing geostatistical methodology and be able to coordinate and direct integrated reservoir description projects.

The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting and directing integrated reservoir studies employing compositional simulation to assist in the design and management of the company’s CO2 floods. Coordinating and directing fluid and rock property acquisition programs. Coordinating and directing integrated reservoir description programs employing advanced geostatistical procedures designed to provide the geologic model employed in the simulation models. Good communication skills are required to interface with geoscience and engineering staff responsible for our many existing and pending the CO2 flood implementations and management.

Reservoir engineers with a Masters or PHD in engineering with 20+ years of major oil company experience are preferred.

This deepwater project is a multi-TCF gas pool being developed currently. The project is slated to be on production in 1 to 2 years at an estimated cost in excess of $2 billion. The team is looking for a Senior Geophysicist. In this role you will hold a key technical position within the integrated Subsurface Team for several deepwater blocks. Primary responsibilities will include the various geophysical activities required for the delineation and development of deepwater projects together with exploration, delineation and development activities within their deepwater portfolio. This will include geophysical mapping, reservoir and pay prediction, providing recommendations for drilling locations, evaluation of drilling results, together with assessments of original in-place hydrocarbons and the provision of geophysical inputs for field ODP (Overall Development Plan) reporting.   Position will initially be Calgary based but the incumbent must be willing to relocate to SE Asia if required (possibly by end of 2010 ex-pat). Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking the geophysical interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data
  • Applying advanced 3D seismic interpretation techniques, including AVO and seismic inversion
  • Developing and recommending well locations and evaluation programs
  • Preparing recommendations and documentation in support of drilling and evaluation programs
  • Providing geophysical interpretation for hydrocarbon volumetric evaluations
  • Acting as a technical specialist and resource to the team on all geophysical matters
  • Providing geophysical inputs into Overall Development Plans
  • Implementing project plans and schedules in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that a culture of strong and effective team-work exists in the subsurface Team
  • Interfacing with partners and government authorities

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in the Geosciences
  • APPEGA “Professional Geologist” designation or eligibility for same
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience as a development and exploration geophysicist with at least 10 years working on international projects
  • A strong geological background and understanding of marine depositional systems, including deepwater
  • Sound knowledge of geological, geophysical and/or reservoir engineering disciplines
  • A thorough understanding of seismic inversion and other specialist geophysical techniques would be an asset
  • 3D and 2D seismic interpretation skills are required
  • Working knowledge of seismic inversion and AVO techniques is preferred
  • Experience with Jason inversion software
  • Proven track record in prospect generation and mapping
  • Strong command of the English language, with good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning and multi-tasking skills to set and exceed established goals, schedules, and deadlines, often under tight time lines and with shifting priorities
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment dealing with people from various disciplines to achieve goals, and to identify and resolve problems

Business travel will be required approximately 10% of the time to South East Asia, therefore a valid passport is required.

This deepwater project is a multi-TCF gas pool being developed. The project is slated to be on production in the next year with an estimated cost of over $1 billion.

The Development Project Team is looking for a Reservoir Simulation Engineer to be responsible for the maximization of reserves and the optimization of the development well locations for deepwater field developments. In this role you will be responsible for carrying out accurate reservoir simulation and synthesis for the field(s) in association with other Reservoir Engineers and Geoscientists, and will provide reservoir engineering input to the team as required.
Specific responsibilities include: `
  • Develop 3D reservoir simulation models that accurately reflect all the available geological and reservoir engineering data, and provide reservoir depletion plans
  • Assist in the planning and execution of depletion/drilling strategies within a team environment
  • Help define and optimize the reservoir management strategy, development well locations and well design and production profiles
  • Identify risks and risk mitigation strategies/actions for each reservoir, including evaluation of the reservoir risks and uncertainties associated with development wells and production facilities
  • Define reservoir evaluation programs and participate in the follow up analysis of well results and integration of well results
  • Prepare and present reservoir engineering information to management, partners and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory applications/documents
  • Keep informed of technical advancements in the field of reservoir modeling
The position will be Calgary based

Qualifications:

This is a senior professional position which, as part of the Petrophysical Team, provides petrophysical support to Business Units and Exploration Districts. In the role of Senior Staff Petrophysicist, you will evaluate petrophysical data from the Company and partner operated wells for the purpose of establishing drill stem test intervals, completion and/or abandonment decisions, perforation intervals, reservoir potential and reserves estimates. An important aspect of the position is to conduct multi-well analysis projects in support of Enhanced Oil recovery (EOR) and unconventional resource play projects.  Specific responsibilities of the position are:

  • Design and monitor formation evaluation programs
  • Ensure quality of load data
  • Conduct petrophysical analyses on single wells and on multi-well projects
  • Mentor and advise staff on petrophysical data and interpretations


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a combination of logging operations, log analysis, and/or geology
  • Currently registered, or eligible for registration with The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in designing and monitoring logging programs and conducting petrophysical evaluations of single wells and multi-well projects
  • Experience in the evaluation of unconventional reservoirs
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Well developed oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Good organizational skills to handle a wide variety of tasks and priorities
  • Ability to mentor and train less experienced staff on petrophysical issues
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Interactive Petrophysics is an asset
