Our client, is seeking an experienced candidate in Market Risk.  Due to the diversity and complexity of the products that our client trades, this is a constantly challenging responsibility, but one that is pivotal to the client’s way of doing business.

On a daily basis, Market Risk is responsible for setting, monitoring, reporting and enforcing risk limits across all the trading areas of the Group. In addition, Market Risk approval is required on all new deals and products prior to trading. Whether it is an innovative exotic derivative structure, or the purchase of an entire trading business, Market Risk analysts work closely with the front office to ensure that the risks arising from the new venture are fully understood, and adequately constrained.  As a key member of management you will be responsible for the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Be involved in the approval of new products, businesses and trading strategies.

Be directly responsible for monitoring and reporting risk metrics on a daily basis to senior management, including the Managing Director. In doing so, you will gain exposure to a wide range of businesses and products from around the globe.

Interact constantly with the front office traders to ensure that the market risks arising from day-to-day trading positions are fully understood and managed appropriately within the limit framework.

Liaise with back office and support staff to ensure that the trading systems adequately represent the risk profile of the trading books, and that risk numbers are reported in an accurate and timely manner.

Be immersed in the global financial markets. Understanding what drives financial markets and keeping abreast of market news and trends is vital part of understanding and identifying potential risks.

Assess the appropriateness of mathematical derivative pricing models within the context of real-world market conditions.

Operate in a global environment with staff around the globe (Far East, London and New York), this position will be based in Houston.

KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Minimum education; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Economics.  MBA or other Master’s level degree highly preferred.

Significant experience in Market Risk, preferably with exposure to US energy markets gained within a dynamic international bank.

Strong analytical ability and judgment skills.

Proven ability to balance the need to switch between being immersed detailed day to day activity and problem-solving versus managing higher level longer term activities and objectives.

Proven ability to sustain high level of performance under pressure with short deadlines etc.

Superior interpersonal and relationship building skills to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders across all levels and all geographical demographics.

Able to conceptualize, anticipate and articulate emerging issues.

Effective presentation skills including strong written and verbal communication.

Strong MS Excel and Access skills required

  • Responsible for the financial reporting, data modeling and general ledger accounting for seven entities including daily entries, closings, and accruals (revenue, production volumes, Lease Operating Expenses, etc.).
  • Managed the Treasury functions including daily cash reporting, wire transactions, sweeps, ZBA’s, cash account reconciliations and cash projections.
  • Supervised three General Ledger accountants.

Joint Interest Billing Manager (1989-1999)

  • Supervised billing for 1,066 operated wells, 1,870 outside operated wells, 12 field offices, 22 facilities and 125 profit center producing 5,100 invoices monthly.
  • Supervised and maintained internal audits, Authority For Expenditure costs and budgeting setup, maintenance and all function reporting.
  • Administer capital expenditure payouts, property detail ledgers, property acquisition payouts and sub-ledger analysis and account reconciliations to the GL.
  • Produced monthly and quarterly Lease Operating reports, Lifting Cost
  • Analysis, Authority for Expenditure budget/variance reporting for the Engineering/Production group.
  • Supervise three Joint Interest Billing accountants, four AP accountants and one file clerk.
  • Worked directly with Engineering/Production management to resolve invoice expenditure coding and departmental accounting procedural issues.
