Senior Staff Production Engineer

This project is a multi-TCF gas pool being developed by the operator and its partner. The project is slated to be on production in 2 years at an estimated cost in excess of $2 billion.  Our Team is looking to fill a key technical position. We are seeking a Senior Staff Production Engineer to be based in Calgary, Alberta. This position represents a key technical position within the integrated Subsurface Team for multiple deepwater blocks.   Working within a fully integrated team you will be responsible for providing production engineering expertise for the offshore deepwater gas field development project and other fields within the portfolio. This role requires experience in deepwater gas developments, including experience in design, production and analysis.   The position will initially be Calgary based but incumbent must be willing to relocate to if required (ex-pat).

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a technical specialist and resource to the team on all production engineering  matters
  • Preparing recommendations and documentation in support of deepwater gas field development and production engineering
  • Design and support well completion, re-completion, stimulation and abandonment
  • Design and implement workover, artificial lift and sand control
  • Initial and final production rate (IPR/TPR) outflow performance evaluation and tubing selection along with optimum rate determination
  • Well performance analysis, diagnosis and well surveillance
  • Production, injection data management for daily data reporting and analysis
  • Ensure adequate well start-up and shut-down procedures are prepared and followed for deepwater wells
  • Assist in the development and implementation of flow assurance techniques and program
  • Identify risks and risk mitigation strategies/actions
  • Close liaison with Drilling and Completions, Facilities and Reservoir Engineers. Liaise with well and well services Supervisor for well operations
  • Work with cross-functional team, including FEED team to achieve well and field optimization
  • Implement project plans and schedules in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that a culture of strong and effective team-work exists the subsurface Team
  • Interface with partners and government authorities

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • An Engineering Degree, preferably in Petroleum Engineering. A Masters degree in Geosciences would be a definite asset
  • 15 years of Production Engineering experience
  • 10 years of international exploration and offshore/deepwater gas field development/production experience, including subsea development/operations, design, production and analysis
  • Solid working knowledge with downhole tools and equipment including onshore and offshore operations
  • Working knowledge of geology and reservoir engineering
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment dealing with people from various disciplines to achieve goals, and to identify and resolve problems
  • Strong command of the English language, with good oral and written communication skills

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
• Monitor and analyze barriers to optimum efficiency in field, including wells, pipelines and facilities;
• Recognize and prepare workover and well performance enhancement opportunity programs;
• Work with the team to develop opportunities to enhance production and prioritize downhole work procedures;
• Act as a liaison between Calgary and field operations;
• Develop and execute capital budget for field production optimization and facility maintenance; and
• Monitor and improve operating costs, enhancing net back in area of responsibility.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
• University degree in Engineering and a registered APEGGA member;
• Minimum 10 years related industry experience directly involved with production engineering;
• Understanding of open hole and cased hole logs;
• Experience with artificial lift, pump design and pressure transient analysis;
• Knowledge of environmental, regulatory and safety guidelines;
• Highly organized with excellent project management abilities;
• Familiarity with well modeling tools such as Fekete’s Virtual well, Piper and MBA;
• Understanding of costs and economic requirements;
• Self-motivated and results-oriented; and
• Team focused with excellent communication skills.
